Interested in adopting a puppy?
Please read below for more information.
We often have puppies looking for forever homes — but only the right homes that are able to meet the needs of a young puppy for life.
At Hobo Haven Rescue, we are committed to finding only the very best families for our pups. That means loving, prepared, and dedicated adopters who truly understand the time, care, and commitment it takes to raise a young puppy into a happy, well-adjusted adult dog.
Daytime Availability is Essential
Puppies need regular bathroom breaks, supervision, and social interaction throughout the day.
We will only consider homes where:
An adult is home during the day or
Has the ability and commitment to return home frequently.
Even if you work from home, pups need 100% of your attention when out of the crate. A plan for supervision and crate use is absolutely required.
Training & Structure
All adopters are required to enroll in:
Puppy socialization class (prior to adoption)
Level 1 obedience training (after adoption)
Crate training is a must. It offers a safe and comforting space for your puppy and helps build a healthy routine. Exercise pens are also great tools to support success!
Lifelong Commitment
These pups have been lovingly raised in foster care. We're looking for homes that are ready not just for the puppy stage, but for the lifelong journey ahead.
We do not adopt puppies to seniors due to the dog's 15+ year lifespan. Our priority is long-term stability and well-being for each dog.
Adoption Logistics
Applicants must live within 45 minutes to 1 hour maximum, to attend regular vet appointments in Elmira ON-vaccines, microchip, spay/neuter, etc- covered by the rescue and completed at our vet in Elmira.
A home with another suitable dog is often ideal for companionship and positive development and social skills, but not mandatory
Distance Policy Clarification:
We often hear from applicants who are willing to drive further distances for the mandatory veterinary appointments at our rescue vet. While we appreciate this commitment, our maximum adoption distance of one hour is about much more than convenience.
Per the legal adoption contract, if an adopter fails to attend scheduled veterinary appointments, it is considered a serious breach of contract and the dog must be returned to our care. For this reason, our team must be able to reasonably enforce these terms. We are not able to travel beyond a one-hour radius to ensure compliance, and therefore cannot extend our adoption distance beyond this limit.

These pups are adorable — but it takes much more than love to raise one right.
Every puppy is unique — we ask that families read their profile thoroughly to ensure a great match, both for the dog and for your family.
We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XC1rUWWnxI , or on Amazon prime
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love.
