Hiro is a young, Bernese/Poodle/Saint Bernard mix who was surrendered to our care when his owners were not able to provide him with the care he needed.
Home requirements: Hiro will require a home with a fully fenced yard -he loves to run and play but only in a yard in familiar territory. NOT suitable for dog parks
Ideally would have a semi playful companion closer in size. He really loves to play!
He has excellent leash manners but is more shy and timid on walks and would not be a good running partner, he is reasonably low energy due to being a large breed and is happiest in a quiet environment/not busy loud neighbourhoods.
Hiro isn't fear reactive in any aggressive ways. He responds with strictly flight and avoiding response. If people ignore he is perfectly happy with that. He is getting much better and passing people. It's the approach he struggles with.
His fosters lives in a small hamlet and thankfully most people there now understand not to approach without asking. His biggest issue is men, his fear is deep rooted but is slowly coming around to the man in his foster home who is patient and gentle and kind and always has treats.
Hiro is a dream to walk! Wonderful leash manners.
You can not leave a leash/harness/collar out in his reach. Will chew any leash/collar left in his reach, but otherwise has learned to chew appropriately with bully sticks, tendons, chew toys and other healthy chew options given.
He loves to chew on that type of leash/collar material for what ever reason and will destroy it in seconds. He is very food motivated but very stubborn at the same time.
He does get the zoomies and loves to run, bounce and play in the yard with his buddies. In the house he is very relaxed and calm as long as he is not confined. His current foster has someone home 90% of the time, but when they do all leave he is a rock star. Usually he will make his way up to one of their beds and snooze until they return.
He is not at all happy confined in a crate but is also trusted being loose.
Hiro would thrive best with a confident female as his primary care giver, he is still nervous around men and will require a very patient man if any in the home to earn his trust.
Older, respectful, dog savvy kids would be OK, he loves to play with them!
Waits nicely for food. Handles physical manipulations with no concerns, and is a dream to groom.
Hiro is good with all dogs and is currently fostered with multiple sizes and ages of other dogs, but prefers females and larger breeds/closer to his size
He is an absolute snuggle bug! Adores cuddles once he feels comfortable with you and although he is young and active, is also typical of large breed dogs in that he can also be a big ole couch potato for downtimes.
Hiro is currently eating a balanced raw diet that comes in convenient pattie form for ease of thaw and serve feedings. He eats with a raised feeder for his food and water for optimum ergonomics and digestion.
He has been neutered, up to date on vaccinations, dewormed, microchipped, blood work normal, 4DX tests for heartworm and tick diseases (negative) and recently had a cherry eye repair done which is healing very nicely.
As a poodle mix, he will require a committed family who will attend to his daily grooming needs to prevent matting and his clipping with a groomer every 8 weeks to keep his coat from pelting to his skin.

We require all serious applicants to watched "Petfooled" which is a free documentary at this link https://vimeo.com/300627165, on Amazon prime or also a variety of other free video sites.
Our motto is "know better/do better" and we ask all adoptive families to be as committed to providing our dogs with quality nutrition as they are to providing love. This documentary is not advertising, purely just educational.
An adoption application must be completed and approved, as well as a home visit (Zoom during COVID), prior to meeting available dogs. All dogs are placed in loving foster homes during their time with us, we do not have a shelter to visit.
We do not allow applicants to visit until pre-approved for adoptions.
Any questions may be emailed, our volunteers work full time and are often not able to answer or return phone calls in a timely manner.
Due to the high volume of applications received for our dogs, priority of replies will be given to applicants who meet the criteria mentioned in the pet's profile.
Please do not ask us to make exceptions, we set these protocols and policies for the dog's best interests which are always our highest priority.
